Namecheap DDNS on Ubiquiti EdgeRouter

Posted on March 7, 2019December 11, 2024 by tkrn

Namecheap provides a great domain service with an emphesis on security and privacy. I’ve recently decided to try their premium DNS service for a variety of reasons. It was nice to see a Dynamic DNS service. With my home network focused around the Ubiquiti product line and leveraging the EdgeRouter (ER-Lite) Dynamic DNS features. It’s simple and straight forward:

Set the following parameters in the Dynamic DNS section of the EdgeRouter:

Interface: Select your WAN facing interface
Web: Select URL and set the value to dynamicdns.park-your-domain.com/getip
Service: namecheap
Hostname: The “subdomain” hostname you choose in the Namecheap interface
Login: The parent domain at Namecheap
Password: The Dynamic DNS Password that is generated in within the Namecheap interface
Protocol: Leave blank
Server: dynamicdns.park-your-domain.com
