Debrand a Dell EMC VxRail Node to a PowerEdge Server

Posted on September 20, 2023December 10, 2024 by tkrn

I recently debranded a Dell EMC VxRail E560 node that is based on the PowerEdge R640 platform. I had no desire to use vSAN in my environment because of power stability issues so I reverted to a traditional fiber channel SAN fabric being more resilient (matter of my opinion).

With that being said, updates and baselines were not being applied correctly since it was seen as a vSAN node and not a PowerEdge server. To debrand a 14th Gen VxRail node is the same process as debranding an IDPA DP4400. See this article on the process of debranding. I’ve simply included screenshots of the process for proof and verification of the process.
